In Minnesota, 67,796 adults are eligible to become citizens — but the process can be confusing and costly.

With our community's support, the International Institute of Minnesota will guide New Minnesotans through the steps to becoming a citizen of the United States of America.

The need is urgent. On Oct. 2, USCIS is increasing naturalization fees by more than 80% and eliminating most waivers, which is expected to result in fewer Minnesotans becoming citizens.

The fee will soar to $1200 — essentially pricing out entire families. The Institute will guide as many immigrants as possible through the naturalization process before this enormous financial burden is enacted.

Since 2001, the Institute has filed more than 15,000 citizenship applications, and 70% of its clients qualify for a fee reduction due to income
